What’s important to me?

What’s important to me?

One of my favourite places

Over the last couple of years I’ve spent a considerable amount of time (and some money!) on trying to work out what my passion is and how to make this into a reality in terms of work and life-style. I have got closer to the truth but have always seemed to get stuck at the point when I needed to take action for a multitude of reasons but the biggest one is always fear.

I feel at last that I am ready to take action and start to confront some of those fears head on ….starting this blog is one of those actions that I have been thinking about for way too long and is a step in the right direction for me.

I’ve been thinking about what’s important to me, in particular what are my values? There’s a great quote which I read recently which really resonated with me:

‘It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are’ – Roy Disney

So I sat down with a huge long list of different values and thought about what were the most important values for me and how I could live accordingly with those values in mind. I also asked my partner to do the same, hoping that we would share some of them and we did!

Our top six shared values were:

This is our framework, it sums up what is important to us and what we hope life gives us.

I also had some of my own : creativity, courage, teaching, freedom, resilience, independence, individuality – which were also important to me and in particular related to my needing to find my place in the world more fully and feel that I am living the best life that I can not just for myself but for those around me.

Finding time to actually think about this stuff, to put myself first and step back from all the other roles that I have in my life has been tricky but I am giving myself permission to do it and this blog is a way of ensuring that I commit to taking the time.
